Johnson gan\u00f3 las primarias por el liderazgo del Partido Conservador (92.153 votos o un 66%) y fue nombrado Primer Ministro brit\u00e1nico el 24 de julio. En su primer discurso, reiter\u00f3 su objetivo: una salida de la UE el 31 de octubre con o sin acuerdo. En su carta de felicitaci\u00f3n, el presidente del Consejo de la UE, Donald Tusk, dio la impresi\u00f3n de que las negociaciones del Brexit con la UE no ser\u00e1n nada f\u00e1ciles. Adem\u00e1s, Johnson cuenta con una fr\u00e1gil mayor\u00eda parlamentaria. El partido conservador tiene 310 parlamentarios con derecho a voto de un total de 639, frente a 318 de la oposici\u00f3n. Hasta ahora, el DUP ha sido el socio principal en la coalici\u00f3n con los Conservadores, pero Boris Johnson tendr\u00eda que llegar a un acuerdo con ellos (especialmente con respecto a la frontera irlandesa) para poder seguir contando con sus 10 esca\u00f1os y disponer de los 320 esca\u00f1os que le dan la mayor\u00eda.
